Amazon Athena connection with Power BI Service
Hi, i have some data at AWS S3 and already connect the data to my Power BI Desktop using ODBC and some report has been createed. However, when i publish the report to Power BI Service, the data cannot refresh in the Power BI Service.
Then i read some articles, i know i need to install a PBI Gateway in order to update the data. My company already setup the PBI Gateway with version March, 2021, and i try to add the AWS Athena as data source using ODBC. In the "Manage connections and gateways" tab, it show the data is "online" in status; and the ODBC configuration also show that the test connection is "Successfully connected".
But when i refresh the dataset in PBI Service, data source error report that "Unable to refresh the model because it references an unsupported data source".
i have some questions confusing:
1. i have set the "import" at Power BI Desktop, is it the reason for unsupported data source??
2. when i go the PBI Service "setting" - "Datasets" tab, i find the datasets with no option on "Gateway connections", it said that data is using custom data connector. so i cant map the dataset to gateway. Then should i do something on the PBI Gateway - custom data connect ??
3. is PBI services support ODBC connection with Athena like PBI desktop ??

1. no
2. you must match the connection settings between desktop and gateway. are you using dsn or a dsn-less definition?
3. yes, with the gateway which is like a headless PBI desktop.
