Allowing 3rd party users to refresh data from your datasource via Gateway

I have a report and underlying dataset published on my app.powerbi portal. The dataset comprises of an embedded SQL server connection and a local file on the VM's C:\ drive. The data sources are linked to the gateway manager on the server which works fine if I want to refresh the reports via the app.powerbi portal.

 

However, as I have sent the report to an external client, when they publish the report on their app.powerbi portal, its not letting them refresh as its asking for the credentials. 

 

I have set up the credentials on my portal via the 'Manage Gateway' section. As they have published the report on their portal can it not 'talk' to the gateway cluster on my portal?

    Hi. Let's see. The gateway will only work inside of ONE tenant. That is connected with the account logged in the gateway. That will only recognize that the user [email protected] has a gateway installed that you can configure for the datasets he owns in the company tenant. If you send a PBIX file to a person that has its own Power Bi Pro account in a different tenant, they have to install their own gateway to connect to the data or you have to change your gateway to use an account of their tenant that has ownership on the dataset.
