Allow recipients to modify this dataset

Anyone happen to have any insight behind this option when assigning an individual access to a published dataset? I believe this is new and it just recently appeared.

Dear all, we are also wondering about this new option. Is there an official answer from Microsoft? In my view  (enterprise environment) this could help the assignment of "Contributor" role only to specific elements in the workspace. In our context we have  specific use cases, where we need to allow to specific users the "update" authorization only to some elements in the workspace (reports, data set, Data Flows etc.) avoiding to add the users at Workspace level.

oh for crying out loud. They keep adding stuff that we absolutely positively do not want and do not need in an enterprise environment. As if "allow users to reshare" wasn't bad enough. If we catch any developer setting that flag in our company environment we automatically revoke their Pro license.

To take a guess at answering your question - users will most likely be able to overwrite the dataset when uploading their version of the PBIX.  Will have to investigate the actual scope.
