After PowerBi service under manintaince URL gettting changed

Hi All,

Recently, our Power BI service went for a maintenance update.

Before Power  BI service under maintenance URL is -->wabi-us-north-central-redirect.analysis.windows.net

After PowerBi Service Maintenance URL is ---> wabi-us-north-central-j-primary-redirect.analysis.windows.net

Wanted to know why URL is changed or it is coming with extra string "j-primary"

Many thanks for considering my request.

After maintenance, the Power BI service URL changed from wabi-us-north-central-redirect.analysis.windows.net to wabi-us-north-central-j-primary-redirect.analysis.windows.net due to backend cluster updates. The added j-primary indicates a new or specific capacity cluster in the same region (North Central US).

Microsoft uses these naming patterns for load balancing and regional optimization. This change is normal and managed by the service—no action is required unless URLs are hardcoded, but which is not recommended.

Thanks,
Bhavin

Hi @HemanthPrakash

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

The change in the Power BI service URL from

wabi-us-north-central-redirect.analysis.windows.net to wabi-us-north-central-j-primary-redirect.analysis.windows.net

appears due to a backend cluster realignment performed by Microsoft during scheduled maintenance.

The inclusion of "j-primary" in the redirect URL signifies a routing adjustment to a specific capacity cluster or availability zone within the North Central US Azure region. This adjustment aims to optimize load balancing, ensure high availability, and support zonal redundancy and geo-distribution.

This behavior is expected and automatically managed by Microsoft, ensuring no impact on service availability or connectivity, provided hardcoded cluster URLs are avoided. It is strongly recommended to use the general service endpoint app.powerbi.com or region-independent discovery methods for API integrations and Power BI Embedded scenarios.

Unless you have hardcoded the previous URL into scripts or firewall rules (which is not recommended), no action is required on your part, as mentioned by @BhavinVyas3003

Also, we didn't get any scheduled maintenance notifications. How can we get the notifications before scheduled maintenance?. So we can inform our end users.
