Power BI currently does not support a native “Total” bar in bar/column charts. Users are forced into workarounds such as:
Using Matrix visuals with data bars (which don’t look like charts).
Creating calculated tables/UNION rows in DAX (which break “Show data point as a table”).
Relying on custom visuals that require licensing in Power BI Service.
These approaches are inefficient, confusing for end‑users, and block key functionality like “Show data point as a table.”
Why this matters:
Totals are a fundamental requirement in business reporting.
Workarounds add unnecessary complexity and maintenance overhead.
Licensing restrictions on custom visuals make this even harder in organizational tenants.
A native option would align with how totals already work in Matrix/Table visuals.
Request: Please add a built‑in option to display a Total bar in native bar/column charts, with the same behavior as Matrix totals (automatic aggregation, full support for “Show data point as a table”). This should be available in both Power BI Desktop and Service, without requiring custom visuals or licensing.
capturing similar ideas and having it just in forum is not a solution. it has to be made available and working inside power bi.

this case yet to resolve and no solution yet, its limitation of power BI
This fundamental feature even exists with naive reporting tools but not in power BI.
Lot of workarounds required for its known limitations and hence not an accepatblee flagship product yet.
this product alive only with Wishlists in name of ideas.
Hi @askuma
I wanted to check if you had the opportunity to review the information provided. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
Thank you.
Repeating data in a visual is a fallacy.
Matrix and Table visuals are the sad examples of bending the knee to the Excel overlords, but at least they attempt to identify these Totals areas in a familiar way.
And then there is the issue of orders of magnitude. In chart type visuals adding a total would skew the scale and mess with the comparison.
Hi @askuma
just wanted to flag that a similar request for Table is already captured as an active idea on the Fabric Ideas portal. If you haven't already, please head over and create a new ideas and based on the vote the idea gets pushed up to the priority list:
The more votes it gets, the better the chances of the Power BI team picking it up in an upcoming release. Feel free to add your comments there with your specific use case — real-world scenarios really help make the case to the product team.
Thanks
If you found this helpful, please consider giving it a kudo and marking it as the accepted solution — it goes a long way in helping others facing the same issue.
