Accessing reports on Power BI Apps
Hello,
This question is on accessing power BI reports shared in apps outside the workspace.
For example I have initially published report 'Sales' on workspace/app 'Senior Management'.
Now I am sharing the same report (Sales) to new app 'Finance' using the navigation tab I get in Update app option in new app. (Screenshot attached)
The users added to the new app Finance who dont have access to the app Senior Management can't see the 'Sales'report.
even though I have added the new users to the underlying dataset for the Sales Report
How do I enable access to users in the new app without adding them to the old app?
TIA.

Please check your screenshot, it seems to be unrelated to your question.
In general you want to have a master dataset in a workspace that doesn't even need an app, and then separate workspaces with app for your different teams. The reports in these app workspaces can connect to the master dataset with Direct Query, and add their own filters.

Thanks lbendlin
The issue is I want to display the same report in two different apps (This report is based on an excel data set)
I want to limit the audiance in the original app and still use some of the reports in another app.Using the method described here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRgzLoRfGgE
Even if I add the users in the new app to the data set published in the old app using 'Manage Permissions' option they still cant see the report published via a link in the new app.
The method I used to publish report in the new appError users are getting in the new app

Please refer to my earlier reply. Create a master (shared, promoted, certified etc) dataset, and then create separate workspaces for each of your audiences. Then their reports/apps can access the master dataset, and apply additional filters/restrictions.
