Abandoned dataflow due to user account deleted / cannot take over configuration settings

Hello Community,

I have never seen this happen before and I have done my due diligence searching Google and this forum and can't find anything.

We have a workspace with several Gen 1 dataflows and report/datasets build by a user who left our organization and their account has been deleted. Some of the dataflows still showed her username and we were table to take over, but several others have a completely blank settings screen, so there is no "Take over" button to change the configuration.

This image shows an example of one dataflow we took over to fix the connections, but the second option is just one of several dataflows that do not have a 'take over' option.

I looked in the REST API hoping maybe there was something I could run to change the configuration but I can't see anything that is related to changing a Dataflow.

Has anyone seen this situation before or have any ideas?

Thanks!
Jessie

Hi @JessieF

If the network trace does not show the full HTTPS URL, server, or GUIDs, Microsoft recommends checking the developer tools → Network tab for PATCH or POST calls related to dataflow metadata updates.

Look at the request payload, it may contain hidden fields like FolderId, GroupId, and DataflowId. If these still aren’t captured, you may need admin access to the workspace via PowerShell (Get-PowerBIWorkspace) to find associated GUIDs.

I marked a solution as I have no doubt it will work in a situation where this content is feasible.  I am not able to try it in the environment at this time, due to dynamic conditions of multiple users.  I also have to request our M365 admin write the Power Shell script, and we are evaluating if that is worth the effort or if the content will be recreated.  I don't want to leave the inquiry open at this time.

@ribisht17  Do you have any additional recommendation if the trace does not produce an HTTPS output like shown in the original answer?  I don't know the msft server and the group guid and dataflow guid, but it looks like the trace provides a folder id which seems necessary for the POST action.  I am not seeing this information in the trace

@ribisht17 - This looks like a post I needed but could not find!   Thank you so much.
I will try this soon as possible and report back; I assume this will be the solution, but would like to try it first
