I have completed a BTEC in IT and looking for my first role in IT as Data Analyst. I have taught myself Microsoft PowerBI, C# to compliment my VB.Net programming I learn't in college. I would like some advice about whether companies take trainees in the data analysis field using PowerBI or should I start in a development role and work towards becomming a Data Analyst? What other skills do I need to learn to become a fully competent Data Analyst? All advice gratefully received.
If anyone knows of any companies that would take a Junior Data Analyst in the West Midlands, UK I would be really grateful. Thank you very much.
With regards to employment, that question is better answered by LinkedIn and various career sites, not random forum strangers. For skills, Power BI is a great "nice to have," but (I'd argue) it's not something you can specifcally turn into a job; visualization is just another component of working with data.
I'm seeing a shift away from R towards Python, a need for good Azure skills (ML or just subscription administration), and of course your standard analyst tricks (time-series modelling, regression, etc.). There's plenty of Coursera/edX/DataCamp courses to teach yourself almost anything you need for these kinds of jobs.
