report server January 2020 Power BI Desktop RS download url issue

Hi

After installing Power BI Report Server january 2020 update, the download Power BI Desktop link is not January 2020 Power BI Desktop RS but the september 2019 version!

Denis

There's a comment over here that a January 2020 Power BI Desktop release is not expected - which I commented doesn't make sense because for Report Server the Desktop verison is supposed to be a rollup of the previous months between the last and the current release.  https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-report-server-january-2020-feature-summary/

Yeah, I think that person is talking about the cloud version of desktop which is a silly comment to make on blog post for PBIRS.

I have a hacky workaround...

If you go to https://aka.ms/pbireportserver it will start trying to download report server - cancel that then click on the link to download manually and this will take you to a page with links to both the Server and Desktop downloads.

Apparently there will be an updated release published in the coming weeks to fix the link in the portal.

Do you know where/how I can monitor the status of these things?

The only way I know is to go to https://aka.ms/pbireportserver and open the details section and check the version and published date. It currently still has a published date of Jan 27th so a new update has not been published yet.

Just updated our QA environment to the January 2020 release and can confirm, the download link from the Reports portal links here:

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2103723

Which then redirects to here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57271

Can't really test out this deployment until we have the right Power BI Desktop!
