on premises data / Excel Power Bi publisher desktop connection

Hello

I’m having issues getting either on premises data gateway or Excel Power Bi publisher to connect / sign in. I’m getting odd network errors. Bear in mind, I’ve got all firewalls off. From on premises I get the following error when I try to login using my email. Note, I can sign into https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/ with no issue. Below is the error I get

Network request returned unexpected error.

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 157.55.171.53:443

   at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.EndConnect(IAsyncResult asyncResult)

at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Exception& exception)

I’ve installed the most recent version of .net as well as reinstalled both on premises and Publisher, multiple times. It appears I’m having an issue with some kind of service that supports the login from the desktop app back to the data gateway. This problem exists in power bi desktop as well. Help. Desperate for this to start working. Thank you in advance.

Hi @jeff_eyebrowze,

The gateway communicates with Power.com with outbound (443) port by default. Please allow 443 in outbound roles. See: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem/#ports

I tried a couple different things.

• Created rules in MS firewall enabling port 443, but TCP and UDP.
• Disabled all firewalls, comodo, as well as windows.

In any event, when trying to use power bi publisher in excel, I still get a “ request to web service failed “ error, along with this detail

Activity Id: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
Request Id: 70fa7e2a-6e37-4078-9e2d-8cc90bb1dfe0

I’m not really interested in on premises gateway working, but it’s critical that I can get the power bi publisher plugin in Excel to function so that I may start using the pinning functions.

I’m on the desperate side, so any further insight into this problem would be most appreciated. If I indeed cannot get this solved via this board, is there a professional that I can contact directly to help me solve ?
