data loss at last date

Greetings colleagues!

I have a problem.

I use Report Server to publish reports.
One report retrieves data for the last 10 days using an SQL query
...
WHERE timestamp>=curdate() - interval 10 day
...
The dashboard shows the results as of the maximum date.
For example: data was loaded from July 5 to July 15, the dashboard shows data for July 15 with the ability to select another date in this period.

But when I save the dashboard on the report server and configure automatic updating, the dashboard refuses to be empty, as if there is no data for July 15th.

When we used the power bi cloud, there was no such problem.

Can someone tell me what's wrong and what solutions are there?

Hi, @pani_victoria

You can find the following file in the log file and open it

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Report Server\PBIRS\LogFiles

This is what it looks like when you open it

vyohuamsft_1-1722583409447.png

Then refresh in the report server to see if there are any errors or exceptions during the refresh process.

Because the Power BI service is more functional than Report Server, Report Server may have some limitations in the case of a mix of multiple data sources. So you need to check the logs of the report server runtime and other logs to see if there are any error messages.

Hi!

Sorry, I've got only questions and no answers for you!

  • It looks like you are running a report against a mysql source. Correct?
  • The automatic updating was successful?
  • How are you filtering on the 15th of July?
  • The data for the 14h of July are available in the report?
  • Maybe there is a time gap between report server and mysql source?

Kind regards,

Christoph

Hi!

* Yes, the report connects to multiple sources - MS SQL, MySQL (main source), xls
* Automatic update is successful
* The main table is filtered by date (in the sidebar filter Top N 1 by date)
* Yes, there is data for the previous day
* We also had this version, but the server and source dates are the same

Hi, @pani_victoria

Can you flash out the data for July 15 now? Has there been a similar problem in the follow-up, such as the data from July 6 to July 16, which was not refreshed on the 16th.
You may want to see if there are any data sources in your hybrid databook that are restricted for refresh. You can check the following link:

Power BI report data sources in Power BI Report Server - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

As a temporary workaround, try refreshing the dashboard or browser manually to see if the latest data is displayed. This can help determine if the problem is with the auto-refresh process. Also look for any error messages or logs in the reporting server that might indicate why the data is not updating as expected. You can troubleshoot your refresh

Troubleshoot scheduled refresh in Power BI Report Server - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

If you can make sure that your report server has the latest patches and updates. Sometimes, bugs in older versions can cause data refresh issues.

Hello!

The problem is not related to automatic update.
The problem does not disappear if I run the update manually.

I have to update the report in the desktop version of PBI and save it on the server.

Also, my report does not have unsupported data sources. In the web version of PBI, everything worked fine.

At the moment, I have not found a solution to this problem 😞
