Working with live data

how to replace a live dataset with another live data?

  • Note: If you have used the old data source in any calculations, you may need to update the calculations to reflect the changes in the new data source.

  • As for the premium version requirement, it depends on the type of data source that you are trying to replace with. Some data sources, like SharePoint or OneDrive for Business, can be replaced in Power BI Desktop with either a Free or Pro account. Other data sources, like Azure SQL Database or Power BI Dataflows, require a Power BI Premium capacity.

  • To replace a live dataset in Power BI with another live dataset, you need to do the following steps:

  • 1. Go to the Report view: In the Home tab, click on the View Report button.

  • 2. Disconnect the old data source: Go to the Home tab, click on the Get Data button, and then click on the Disconnect icon next to the name of the old data source.

  • 3. Connect the new data source: In the Get Data dialog box, select the type of data source you want to connect to and provide the necessary information to connect to the data source. Click on the Load button to load the data.

  • 4. Replace the old data source with the new one: Go to the Fields panel, right-click on the name of the old data source, and then click on Replace References. Select the new data source from the list and click on Replace.

  • 5. Refresh the report: Go to the Home tab, click on the Refresh icon to refresh the report with the new data.

  • Note: If you have used the old data source in any calculations, you may need to update the calculations to reflect the changes in the new data source.
