Why can't we format dates in slicers

The issue of date & calendar formatting has been raised many times over the past 6 years. Just wondering if there's a reason for it. Absolutely crazy that something like this should depend on client-side settings.

Edit to add: There's quite a few ideas for this exact issue, but no single one has gained enough "upvotes".
