The MySql source doesn't support encrypted connections when using cloud connections

Hi, I'v been looking how to deal with this for quite long, hoping can get any ideas here:

I connecting my sql database from colud server, in power desktop, everything works fine, including refreshing. But when it published, the refreshment does not work with this error message: The MySql source doesn't support encrypted connections.

Looking back to my other old reports, I found that they were using on-premises gateway as long as the dataset published. But now, seems it will automaticlly using cloud connections in stead of on-premises gateway, and this is why the refreshing not work.

But when i try to change it into on-premises, and  it seems not possible.

Is it possible to shut down cloud connections? Or moving this connection to gateway?截屏2024-04-12 13.25.15.png截屏2024-04-12 13.25.35.png

@frankwangtakumi  yes, for cloud connections, we dont need a gateway but need a cloud connection setup. it is a new feature in Power BI.

Hi, I have the same issue, anybody found a solution for this?
Enabling Encryption on the server is not an option for me

I'm having the same issue. The MySQL db I'm connecting to doesn't have encryption enabled. I've set the "Encrypted Connection" to "Not Encrypted" and Privacy Level to "Public".

On attempting a refresh, the Power BI Service tries for a few minutes and then gives the error "The MySql source doesn't support encrypted connections. ".

Any other setting gives this error almost immediately.

Use a gateway and disable the encryption check on it.

go into the next section and check if you have any triangles in the credentials list.

Seems ok with all the credentials. Is it a new feature that power bi now leading to cloud connections directly if the database is from the cloud?

Hallo Johnbasha- all,

I’m currently trying to automate the refresh of a dashboard connected to a MySQL database using Power BI Service (Online).

Although I have disabled encryption both in Power BI Desktop and in the Power BI Service data source settings, I still receive an error related to encrypted connections when trying to schedule or trigger a refresh online.

I've checked the following:

The connection works perfectly in Power BI Desktop.

Encryption is explicitly disabled in both environments.

The data gateway is correctly installed and running.

However, Power BI Service continues to reject the connection, assuming encryption is required.

I’ve tried many solutions but nothing worked so far.

Do you have any recommendations or workaround to solve this encryption conflict?

the issue msg "The MySql source doesn't support encrypted connections. (Source at X.XX.XXX.X:3306;xxx.). The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface. Table:xxxx."

Thanks in advance,

It is a bug in Power BI service I guess

We have set-up a gateway on a VM and now it works

So PBI service -> gateway -> MySQL

After setting up encryptting for database, this issue solved. Thanks,

Hey, everybody. I don't use encryption and still get this error.
How to fix it?

The MySql source doesn't support encrypted connections.
