Selecting cells, copying / pasting from Power BI into Excel

Hi there,

I am new to Power BI. I am an end user and need the data displayed in Power BI to obtain data and write reports.

I feel frustrated because there appears to be no easy way to drag and select tables, or multiple cells in a table, to copy and paste in the same format in excel. If I copy the table, the format it is pasted in in Excel is very difficult to sort out. If there are multiple slicers, I seem to have to copy the table for each individual slicer separately to get the data in excel. Is there not an easier way to export the data in excel exactly as displayed in Power BI? Or even a way to quickly select cells in the table to copy / paste?

I am using Power BI Report Server, not the Desktop app.

Hi @canost ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community.

In Power BI Report Server, you can use the "Export Data" option from the visual's menu (three dots "...") to export the table into Excel, but it will be in a raw format without exact styling. Unfortunately, selecting and copying multiple cells like in Excel isn't supported directly, and for better formatted exports, you may need to rebuild the format manually or request a paginated report.
