Rg: PowerBI Desktop Optimized for May 2021 Error

Dear All,

I have installed PowerBI desktop (January 2022). Later on uninstalled/installed  PowerBI Desktop Optimized for May 2021.

After I launched, I get

with the following error.

Could you please tell me how to install May edition?

Hello @uaydogdu ,

It seems, you're trying to downgrade/degrade your PBI Desktop RS from Jan'2022 to May'2021.

I mean, you had uninstalled Jan'2022 PBI Desktop RS and then installed May 2021 PBI Desktop RS. And you're seeing this error message when you  launch the May'2021 application. Am I right ?

If yes, please follow below mentioned steps to fix this error :
1. Uninstall the May 2021 version Power BI Desktop RS .
2. Navigate to this path : C:\Users\<USER_ID>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ and Delete the Power BI Desktop SSRS entire folder .
3. Re-install the May 2021 version Power BI Desktop RS and now, it’ll work without any glitches.

I have the same problem, could you please explain how to deal with it? ( after install 2022.5 version then reinstall MS power BI desktop 2021.5 version, I have to use 2021.5 version due to needs to publish reports onto related version of  MS power BI report server) I cannot try to "launch after closing pbix desktop", because there has no pbix desktop.

Dear Ray , I have upgraded the report server.  In your case 2022.5 of report sever and pbı desktop should work,

Thanks for your reply. However, I have to degrade version of PBI desktop instead of upgrade the version of PBI report sever, because the server side is our production environment… so hope you can help me to solve the issue in this situation, I don’t wanna to reinstall OS finally…
