Report Server and Power BI connection as current user...

Trying to get a handle on what types of connections can utilize Windows Authentication as the user viewing the report, and which cannot.

I was hoping a great deal of connection types would allow this, but it seems to be only available for SQL Data connections utilizing DirectQuery.

While a paginated report data source can utilize the current user for all of its connection types (SQL, SharePoint List, SSAS, ODBC, etc.) it doens't appear a Power BI dataSource can. I had hoped to be able to use DirectQuery to a SharePoint list, and use the current users windows credentials to connection, thereby moving permissions checks to the SharePoint side.

Am I just missing something ?

Thanks.

Hi @rgiltner ,

According to the official article, sharepoint list does not support direct query mode.

And you could refer the following article:

Thanks Lucien.  So does Power BI Report Server only utilize Windows Auth as the current user on "DirectQuery" type data connections only ?  And only those can that be implemented ?
