Report Builder items showing down and to the right

Been using report builder for several years without issue.

Today I opened a report and everything it in seems to have shifted, even off the page, thinking it was an issue with that report I opened others, the same deal, then I tried opening just the program and starting a blank report, same problem.

The text box I entered and typed test into is making the text appear down and to the right a bit, if I click in the box I can see the text I'm entering and where it is showing.

When I'm not in the text box it's blank, like with the execution time field that is in the bottom right by default, the content is appear off the page but the text box that contains it is still in the bottom right of the footer.

I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, installing the newest version, running repairs on the program, nothing gets it back to working.

I have collegaues who are on the same version and theirs is working fine.

I also noticed that my ribbon options are squished, such as Design and Zoom

This was all working yesterday and I don't think anything has changed on my system overnight

Hi @DanCodd ,

Sorry for the Inconvenience..!!

This seems to be a UI rendering issue related to screen scaling and recent auto-updates.

Here are some workaround that might help:

1.Roll Back to a Stable Version (Recommended)
a.Uninstall the current Report Builder version (15.0.20318.44 or later).

b.Install an older version such as 15.0.20073.0 which has no rendering issues.

Since Microsoft’s official download page only hosts the latest version, you’ll need to:

Use an installer from a colleague/team backup, or

Check if your IT department or internal software repository has the .exe.

c.To prevent auto-updates:

Avoid using the Microsoft Store version (which updates automatically).

Use the standalone installer (ReportBuilder.msi) instead and disable updates via group policy or update policy settings (if managed in your environment).

 2.Display Scaling Adjustment (Temporary Workaround)
If rolling back isn't feasible:

Set your Display Scaling to 100% (via Windows Display Settings).

This resolves the text alignment and missing text issues.

  • Until Microsoft issues a fix in an upcoming patch, the best course of action is to roll back and block auto-updates where possible.

Hi @DanCodd ,

Great to hear that it's working from your end, I would suggest accepting your approach as the solution so that it would be really helpful for others in the community who might be facing similar issues and can address them quickly.

Thank you.

It's not really a solution though, changing your zoom to a level that may hurt your eyes is not a solution.

Also we've found another issue, report parts no longer work, we can search for and see them but when we hover over them to select one to insert, the cursor changes to an endless spinner and we can't do anything with them.

Hi @DanCodd ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

You are absolutely right -  this issue has recently surfaced.

This problem is caused by a bug in the latest version of Report Builder (15.0.20318.44), which was released just a few days ago. The symptoms include:

  • Text shifting down and to the right inside text boxes.
  • Elements like =ExecutionTime appearing off the visible page.
  • Squished ribbon options (like "Design" and "Zoom").
  • Blank-looking objects until clicked into.

These are all UI rendering issues introduced in this release.

Here are steps to fix the issue:

Rolling back to a previous stable version fixes the issue completely.

Steps:

1.Uninstall Report Builder version 15.0.20318.44.

2.Download and install an older version - specifically 15.0.20073.0, which has been verified to work fine.

3.After installing, re-open your reports. Everything should render correctly again.

OK, where can you download 15.0.20073.0? the report builder download page only offers the newest version, I happen to have it because a co-worker still had it in their downloads, but if that wasn't the case we would have no way to get it.

Plus I managed to install an older version earlier and it worked, now report builder appears to have updated itself to the newest version again and it's back to broken, how can we stop it updating?

I see a new version has come out, 15.1.20318.47, however it still has the same issue.

I have found a work around though, changing the scale display setting of my screen to 100%, it was set to 125%, now report builder displays correctly, probably not great for my eyesight long term though.

Other memebers of my team starting getting the issue as well, all of us where on the new version, 15.0.20318.44

Luckliy, one of us had an older version installer still in their downloads folder, 15.0.20073.0, we've all installed that one and it's working fine, so seems like an issue with the new version that released a couple of days ago and the program auto updated itself.
