Re-install previous Power BI Report Server version

Hi,

Having upgraded to the latest version of Power BI Report Server (January 2021), and experienced the issue described in this previous post (https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/URL-filters-not-working-after-PBIRS-Jan-2021-update/m...), what is the easy way to return to a previous version?

Can you simply install an earlier version or is a complete backup restore required?

Thanks a mill

A version upgrade will sometimes make changes to the database schema meaning that it is not safe to just uninstall/reinstall.

The safest way to roll back is to make sure you have a back up of the encryption keys and a back up of your database from before the upgrade. Then uninstall report server, restore the copy of your database from before the upgrade, then reinstall the older Report Server and upload the encryption key.

If you don't backup/restore the encryption keys you will have to re-enter any saved credentials for you data sources. You should always backup your encryption keys when you install PBIRS, but I don't believe the keys get changed after the original install, so you could back then up now before you do anything else and I believe they should still work fine.
