RLS Problems when Uploading Report to Power bi Server

Hi Community,

I was yesterday testing and came across a slight problem when using RLS within the PowerBI Report Server. Turns out when i create a role in PowerbiDesktop optimised for Powerbi report server and then upload the report i get the error on the visuals saying " That the visual contains restricted Data.". I do not understand why this is coming up when clearly i didnt assign anyone to the role yet. As soon as i remove the role and then update the File in Reportserver everything runs as before. On the otherhand if i publish a file to service it never shows these problems. Does anyone have a solution to my problem or a clue and has  faced with such a thing before?

P.S

I am the Systemadministrator for the reportserver.

I think this comes down to the different security architectures between PBIRS and the Power BI Service. PBIRS does not have workgroups so they had to adapt the security model. By default when you upload a report to PBIRS it automatically generates a RSReaderRole in the data model and I'm assuming it injects users in there at run time or something like that. But once you create your own roles it no longer does this and you have to populate the roles yourself.

So to fix your access issue you need to click on the "..." menu for your report, then go into "Manage" and click on the "Row Level Security" tab. Then simply add yourself and any other users or groups to one or more of the roles that you created.
