Powewer BI On Premise Gateway refresh error

Hi,

We recently face error while refreshing datasets with below message.  Is this  related to resources in the server where Gateway is configured?

DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_OutOfMemoryError

Data source error: {"error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_OutOfMemoryError","pbi.error":{"code":"DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_OutOfMemoryError","parameters":{},"details":[],"exceptionCulprit":1}}} Table: YYYY

    Hi indkumar ,

Thank you for reaching out with your issue regarding the Power BI On-Premise Gateway refresh error. Based on the error message you've provided, it does indeed seem related to resource constraints on the server where the Gateway is configured. The `DM_GWPipeline_Gateway_OutOfMemoryError` indicates that the Gateway ran out of memory while trying to refresh the dataset.

Here's an action plan to help you resolve this issue:

    Check Server Resources
    - Verify the server's current memory usage.
    - Ensure that the server meets the minimum requirements for running the On-Premises Data Gateway.

    Increase Server Resources (if necessary):
    - If the server is consistently running at high memory usage, consider adding more RAM to the server.
    - Alternatively, close any non-essential applications or services running on the server to free up memory.

    Optimize Dataset and Queries:
    - Review the dataset and queries to ensure they are optimized for performance. This might involve reducing the dataset size, optimizing transformations, or simplifying complex queries.

    Gateway Configuration:
    - Check the Gateway settings in the Power BI Service to ensure that it's configured correctly for your dataset size and complexity.
    - Consider increasing the data compression settings or adjusting the timeout settings if applicable.

    Check Logs:
    - Review the Gateway logs for any additional information that might help diagnose the issue.

  • yes.  Use the gateway logs to identify which mashup requests are causing this.  Recommendation is to have 16GB or better RAM on each gateway cluster member.  You can also modify the settings to limit the gateway service to 95% of the VM's RAM (for example), and you can add a large swap disk/page file to relieve the memory pressure.

      Thanks for the detailed response.

We identified the datasets and memory resource constraint in the gateway server. Working to upgrade the memory.
