Power bi gateway offline
- Anonymous1 year ago
Hi NIRU ,
Thanks for raising this.
Thank You hackcrr for your time and solution. Yes, the super user’s response and the Microsoft documents are correct and relevant to your question.
In Power BI Pro workspaces, scheduled refresh is supported via an on-premises data gateway, provided the gateway is online and properly configured. If you're seeing your gateway status as offline, then scheduled refreshes will not work until it is back online.
Please follow the guidance shared in the links.
- Ensure your gateway is running on the machine where it's installed.
- Make sure the machine is connected to the internet and the gateway service is running (check via Task Manager or Services).
- If necessary, restart the gateway service or reinstall the gateway.

Your Power BI Pro license does not disable scheduled refresh. The issue is that your on-premises data gateway is offline, which stops refreshes.
Quick fixes:
Check that the gateway service is running on the server.
Ensure network/firewall allows gateway to connect to Power BI service.
Update gateway to the latest version.
Verify gateway login credentials and dataset credentials in Power BI.
Restart the gateway service and test a manual refresh.
The problem is connectivity/configuration, not your Pro license.
