Power Bi Report Server and Power Bi service Pricing

Hi everyone,

Can anyone assist me with understanding the total cost associated with Power BI Report Server? I am aware that for Report Server, we need either Power BI Premium or SQL Server Enterprise Edition with Software Assurance (SA). If I choose to go with SQL Server with SA, what would be the cost, and are there any additional expenses involved? From my research, I found that the price might be quite high, so I am unsure if my information is accurate.

Additionally, what would be the costs involved if I opt for the Power BI service instead of the Report Server? Please provide details on all the associated prices.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Ro27 ,

Thank you for @lbendlin answer , and I have other suggestions:

1.Power BI report Server:

So if you have SQL Server Enterprise 2016 with SA, you have a Power BI Reporting Server, or if you have a Power BI Premium instance, you will have a licence for the Reporting Server. However, in all cases, users who publish reports will need a Power BI Pro licence at $10/month/user.

2.Power BI Service

Pricing for the Power BI service is based on user licenses:
Power BI Pro: $10 per user per month to create, share, and use reports.
Power BI Premium Per User (PPU): $20 per user per month for dedicated cloud capacity and enhanced performance without requiring report consumers to use a per-user license.
Power BI Premium: Dedicated cloud capacity starts at $4,995/month for organizations with high data volumes and complex reporting needs.
