Power BI Report Server On Premises January 2026
Failed to connect to AS in every dashboard after upgrade from January 2025 to January 2026.
Between restarts of the Report Server service the dashboard mantain their status as in refresh.
I have one dashboard that I use to test, that takes everytime just under 15 seconds to refresh and is refreshing almost since 13:53 and right now are 17:07 And msmdsrv is crashing all the time.
Anyone with this problem ? And a solution to solve it ?

Hi CarpatechPT,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
It indicates a server-side issue related to the upgrade rather than a problem with the dashboard itself. Please check the msmdsrv logs and Windows Application Event Viewer around the crash time, as they normally show the exact reason for the failure. Also make sure the January 2026 version was upgraded correctly from January 2025 and that no custom settings in msmdsrv.ini are causing conflicts. If any memory or performance settings were changed earlier, try resetting them to default and test again. You can also test with a new simple report to confirm whether the issue is happening across the server.
Hope the above provided information help you resolve the issue, if you have any further concerns or queries, please feel free to reach out to us.

Community Support Team. Hi,
I am going to mark your answer as accept because in the night I found that after the upgrade msmdsrv.ini changed a few settings. I have used the backup copy to tweak some of the settings until the service was restored.

Hi Paulo Pedro,
Unfortunately I don't have a msmdsrv.ini backup, can you please provide more details, maybe send me/post the working file here? Extremely annoying issue, reports are not refreshing, we need to resolve this asap.
