Hello everyone. My database size is around 50gb.I am thinking of using Report Server and planning to buy Sql server ee with sa.What else can I need? What else should I know? What problems can I face? Thanks.
It depends what business needs. Especially compressed data model size, number of datamodel used concurently, number of users, and which features is required.
E.g. you buy few Power BI Pro or Power BI Premium per user licences in cloud, and it can be success.
Or With MSSSQL EE SA, you can build complex platform based on MSSQL DB, SSIS for ingest, SSAS for large PBI models, and PBI RS for Power BI report. From long term usage and in case of large models and many endusers, it will be much better from cost perspective (but maybe with some feature limitations).
Generally for small or short solution is better use cloud Power BI Pro or Premium. For large and complex solution with many users is best option combine on-prem MSSQL/SSAS/PBI RS solution with cloud Power BI Premium per capacity.
A few things:
1. What you need depends on the business need. I am sure there is business reason why you are going with Report Server, but please take a look at the difference between Power BI Service and Report Server here - Comparing Power BI Report Server and the Power BI service
2. I suggest that you go through some basic training on Power BI development process. There are numerous training options available - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/powerplatform/power-bi?WT.mc_id=powerbi_landingpage-marke...
3. The problems you face depends on the problems you are trying to solve and the approach you are taking. For example, if you are trying to setup Email subscriptions Power BI report, that feature is not available yet in Power BI Report Server.
One final suggestion - it might be beneficial to create new posts with more specific questions. This could help attract more focused and insightful responses from the community, ensuring that you receive timely and valuable information.
Thank you!
