Power BI Embedded on Premises

I am working with a customer and I need to help him make sure that the below is doable without Azure and cloud services:

  • Each user should be able to see embedded dashboards from Power BI in the customer’s application which is hosted on premises – the customer doesn’t want to have anything exposed to the cloud
  • The data of the client should not be exposed over the cloud.
  • The clients (HR manager for example) should have the ability to build their own dashboards and publish them.
  • After publishing the dashboard, it should appear in the application and all other users should be able to access it.
  • The application’s clients should not be able to exchange the reports between them.

The most important thing is the ability to embed dashboards from Power BI.

If your customer wants to keep everything internally the best way to accomplish what you want is to use Power BI report server hosted on premises.   You will not be able to render Dashboards,  but you can have reports rendered on their application thru an IFrame hosting the PBI or SSRS report.    Anything in the Power BI service would require for the data to reside in the Azure cloud and by definition not work for their use case.

In summary, you should be able to host those Reports on the customers'  application,  dashboards are not applicable on Power BI Report Server infrastructure,  only on the service.
