Hi,
We recently upgraded the preview version of PBI server to recent GA but it seems like chart don't render properly when there is a legend.
Is this known bug ?
Hi, the updated/fixed PBI Report Server version from November 17th
fixed the usage-of-legend-doesn't-let-the visual-render problem for us; this works now in all visuals (Stacked Bars/Columns etc).
Unfortunately there seem to be another issue in there now: the MDX cube formatting not is properly interpreted.
In practice our MDX Mio-cube-formatting after each refresh in the PBI report server report is shown sometimes in mio, sometimes in thousand values. The weird thing: It changes randomly with each refresh (pressing the refresh button).
We deleted the IE browser cache on server and client sides, no change.
This doesn't happen in the PBI Desktop RS - Version 2.51.4885.1423, only in the deployed reports in PBI Report Server - Version 14.0.600.437.
The behaviour doesn't appear in the service / cloud PBI (November release), here the cube format is interpreted always correctly.
We use Analysis Services 2016 direct connection.
Hi,
although we updated to the same versions as above,
did not fix the usage-of-legend-doesn't-let-the visual-render problem here.
I hope there will be a fix soon...
Best regards,
Mogens Smerdel
I finally figured out, that the upgrade to the newest version actuallly fixed the problem, but it is necessary to clear the browser cache for whatever browser you are using.
After clearing the cache the charts render as they are supposed to.
Best regards,
Mogens
We have the same problem with the October GA version. Also no differenciation in the bars or no bar at all when using legends. Happens in all Stacked Bar visuals, except the 100% Stacked bar, which seem to work. Happens both in PBI DesktopRS October version as well as in the PBI Reporting Server, both connected to multidimensional SSAS with DirectQuery.
Tested on two machines, same results.
@bonosungho @nicholaszyu @MR2017 can you provide an isolated repro report and private message it to me so we can try to repro this on our end. This sounds a lot like caching issues but if your seeing it in Desktop and the browser it's likely something else. One more quick question, do any of you have the latest Service version of the Desktop installed? If so are you seeing the issue there? Thanks!
Matt M.
@v-qiuyu-msft thanks for the video we have a bug on our end and we're looking into.
The issue seems happening when i select the base measure in the cube. Calculated measures render without any issue....
I am seeing it in the current verion.

almost seems as if a bug from powerbi september cloud service made its way into the october report server release
Hi,
Here is my investigation.
I installed the Power BI Desktop for RS in an isolated machine where no Power BI desktop was installed before but Im experiencing the same issue. Cleared cache, and created from brand new pbix file but the issue is still there when using SSAS data source.
I downloaded the Power BI desktop for cloud version but no issue there. The chart renders fine in the service version.
On the first machine (test machine) formerly only the October service version of Desktop (v2.51.4885.701) was installed, then it was uninstalled, then the Power BI Report Server (June 2017 GA [14.0.600.305] + related June RS version of desktop installed. Worked fine w/o any problems.
Today updated to Power BI Report Server (October 2017 version [14.0.600.434]) + related October RS version of PBI desktop (v2.51.4885.1041) => problems occur as described. Also deleted IE cache, no change.
Issue occurs both with existing SSAS DirectQuery reports and SSAS DirectQuery reports that newly have been created from the scratch in the RS desktop version.
>> do any of you have the latest Service version of the Desktop installed? If so are you seeing the issue there?
On the second machine both the RS October (v2.51.4885.1041) and service October (v2.51.4885.701) PBI desktop clients are installed in parallel (is this allowed/recommended? It's possible...).
Both the existing and also new reports work fine w/o any issue in the October 2017 service desktop version as well as in PBI Azure service environment which I guess currently should be October version as well, whereas in the RS desktop version again we have the described issue.
I will check whether we have left a machine which didn't had installed any service desktop version before, means where we can check RS desktop version (only) with a clean installation.
One remark, possibly not relevant: Both machines are relatively restricted regarding internet access due to to corporate policies and a proxy server, here the first machine more than the second. I mention this because the map visual made some problems here because it wanted to connect to the internet both from the RS desktop as well as from the PBIRS server. We had to allow proxy connects for the respective map sites before it was working. Because map uses Bing this somehow makes sense wheras for stacked bars and columns I would not expect any internet need.
It looks a bit like incompatibilities of possibly shared resources / classes etc. between RS and service desktop tools combined with SSAS DirectQuery/Live access .... just a guess ...
yes...the new october GA release, adding a legend to any chart type it seems to cause the chart not to render correctly
Thanks for reporting the issue, I just tried this with a Pie chart but didn't see any issues. Can you provide some more detailed repro steps so we can repro it on our end. Thanks!
Matt M.
Hi
Could you please try the line chart or bar chart ??
Tried both and still not seeing an issue, can you attach a screen shot of what you are seeing? Is it an error or is the visual just blank? Also can you try clearing your browser cache to see if that resolves the issue. Thanks!
Matt M.
Im using the analysis service as the data source.. but here is the screenshot on PBI desktop but it doesn't render at all when we publish the report to the server. As you can see above, it looks fine without the legend but as soon as I put the legend, the chart doesn't render but you can see in the data point that there is data.
Here is the version of PBI Desktop Im using.
Version: 2.51.4885.1041 64-bit (October 2017)
