New Field Parameters feature and May 2022 PBI Report Server

I love the new Field Parameters feature in the Cloud.

For YEARS I've wanted the ability to do dynamic attributes for users at run-time, and now I finally have a native ability to do so.  This is AWESOME...in the cloud.

Unfortuantely, what's not so great (unless I'm missing something), this feature does not seem to work with the May 2022 PBI Report Server release.    In a PBIX that I create with the May 2022 release, I can define field parameters.....however, when I push the report up to the report server, trying to slice "by" any field parameter definition does not respond.  It's almost like it ignores it.

But....when I push the same report up to the cloud and the PBI service, it works fine.

This is somewhat of a deal breaker for us - the workaround for dynamic attributes (of exploding/unpivoting the fact table) is just not practical.   So - can anyone confirm that the new field parameter feature  works the same way in PBI report server May 2022 as it does in Power BI Cloud?

Thanks,

Kevin

No, this feature definitely does not work in Report Server. The field parameter feature is still in a preview feature and Microsoft never enables preview features on Report Server as they have no easy way of pushing updates if any issues are found during the preview.

You should always use the Report Server version of Power BI Desktop to publish to Report Server and if you do that you should find that there is currently no way of enabling field parameters. You should never use the cloud version of Power BI Desktop to publish to Report Server since you could accidentally publish reports with functionality that is not supported by Report Server.

I have not seen a date for when this feature will be publically available, but hopefully once it is you should see if supported in the subsequent release of Report Server.
