How to get Dataset Id and Group Id?
Hi Everyone,
What is the procedure to obtain the datasetId and groupId in Power BI?
Any guidance or documentation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi YashMoroliya
If you are referring Power BI Service here you can obtain group id (workspace id) and dataset id from the report url or by using the Power BI REST APIs (Use the GET Group APIs.)
If you are referring Power BI Report Server so these id's doesn't exist in same way as in PowerBI Service. Instead it identifed catelog items (reports, shared dataset, data sources, folder) using a unique id (GUID).
Depending on the end point, items can also be refrenced by their path.
Could you please confirm whether you are using Power BI service or Power BI Report Server? That will provide the most appropriate guidence.
Here is the resource link you can refer- https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi-report/catalog-items
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi-report/data-sets
For Power BI Service- https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/groups/get-groups

Hi YashMoroliya,
In Power BI Service, open a Semantic Mode which you want to check.
ln the Semantic Model URL link, you will find both groupId and datasetId.
Below is the example format of the Semantic Model URL Link to check groupId and datasetId -
https://app.fabric.microsoft.com/groups/<GroupID>/modeling/<DatasetID>/......💡 Helpful? Give a Kudos 👍 — keep the community growing
