Hi, im using mysql workbench and im able to connect to the database using IP as shown below
but i dont know how to do it in Power BI, it doesnt work when I try to connect it this way
Kindly help me. thanks
Hi @chenishere,
Similar to SQL Server, the connection dialog for MySQL Database also allows users to enter Server Name or IP address, as shown in below image:
Please be aware that before you can connect to a MySQL database, you have to install MySQL Connector/Net 6.6.5 for Microsoft Windows. Select the driver that matches your Power BI Desktop installation (32-bit or 64-bit).
To correctly connect to MySQL DB from Power BI desktop and troubleshoot the error you encountered, please see this blog:

If your database is MySQL then your using the wrong connection type, the one you have below is for SQL Server. In Power BI Desktop on the Get Data dialog you should see an option for a MySQL Database connection, try that as let me know if that works.
thanks for the reply. I tried but it showed this error
isnt there like an option to input IP address, database name, username and password?
pls help
