Funnel visual's Data Labels\Options\Position "Inside Center" not working (Jan 2025)

Hi,

After upgrading from Power BI report Server Jan 2024 to January 2025, our Funnel visual is not displaying properly, Data Labels are outside the bars even for the larger size bars. MS Edge and Google Chrome browsers.

Toggling the funnel visual's Data Labels\Options\Position "Inside Center" doesn't change it either.

After the server upgrade we noticed that the labels were outside. When I design the report in Power BI Desktop RS the labels still do not go on the funnel bars. But when a co-worker edited the report in the same version of Power BI Desktop RS it *DOES* show the labels inside the bars!? Publish back to the server didn't change anything.

One difference between the 2 PCs is that I uninstalled Jan 2024, then installed Jan 2025. Co-worker let the Jan 2025 install remove(?) the previous version.

RS Power BI Desktop is Version: 2.138.2255.0 64-bit (January 2025)

Any help would be appreciated... or a bug fix released?

Hi @Gourd

Sorry for the inconvience.

To resolve the issue you're experiencing with the Funnel visual after upgrading to Power BI Report Server January 2025, where data labels are not appearing inside the bars, try several potential solutions. First, consider uninstalling Power BI Desktop RS completely, then reinstalling it to ensure that no residual configuration files from the previous version are causing conflicts. It's possible that the upgrade process left behind old settings, especially since you manually uninstalled the earlier version. Next, clear the application cache and reset any settings related to Power BI Desktop RS, as cached configurations could be causing issues with the visuals. If possible, test the same report on another machine with a fresh install of the January 2025 version, as this will help identify if the problem is specific to your local installation. Also, check Microsoft's Power BI forums or release notes for known issues related to this bug, as there may be a patch or workaround available. Lastly, although it's not a permanent solution, you could experiment with adjusting the funnel visual's size and label settings in Power BI Desktop to see if changing these properties helps the labels fit inside the bars. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contacting Microsoft support directly may be necessary to address a potential bug or configuration conflict introduced by the update.

Hi @Gourd

After upgrading from Power BI Report Server (PBIRS) January 2024 to January 2025, we encountered an issue with the Funnel visual, where data labels are positioned outside the bars, even for larger bars, in both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Changing the Data Labels → Options → Position setting to "Inside Center" does not resolve the issue. The problem first appeared after the server upgrade, and we noticed that labels remained outside when designing the report in Power BI Desktop RS (January 2025). However, when a co-worker edited the same report using the same Power BI Desktop RS version, the labels correctly appeared inside the funnel bars. Publishing the report back to PBIRS 2025 did not fix the issue. One key difference between our setups is that I uninstalled the January 2024 version before installing the January 2025 version, whereas my co-worker allowed the January 2025 installer to upgrade over the previous version. We are currently using Power BI Desktop RS Version: 2.138.2255.0 (January 2025), and it seems like this could be either a configuration issue, a rendering bug, or a difference caused by how the upgrade was performed. Any insights, potential fixes, or confirmation of this as a bug from Microsoft would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Poojara,

your reply was a restating of my original issue with some words bolded. You did not offer any solution or fix so why would I mark that as the solution??? Did you forget to put in your suggested solution to my problem?

By the way, I too tried putting my question into CoPilot to see a response. Not helpful.

I uninstalled PBI Desktop RS.

Deleted the folder it was installed in (there was only ".log" file left in a bin folder).
Searched the registry a bit and didn't find anything to remove.

I was unable to find any "application cache" (I searched AppData) or "reset any settings related to PBI DesktopRS" (the program has been uninstalled at this point).

I then reinstalled PBI Desktop RS Jan 2025.

Before opening any reports I went into PBI Desktop's menu and the Options section. There I found the "Data Load" panel and under "Data Cache Management Options" a button called "Clear Cache" (currently used 5.92 MB). So I clicked that and the other button "Restore Defaults". There was also a section called "Folded Artifacts Cache Options", I clicked the "Clear Cache" button there too.

Next I opened the problem report (it was in the recently opened reports list, so I hadn't cleared "evrything"). The funnel report WAS showing the labels properly! So I made a minor change and saved it back to the report server. I browsed to the server and it WAS showing the labels properly! The online report is showing properly for other users too.

Thanks Poojara!
