Hi community. There are a class of Refresh errors for PowerBI reports where the message in the logs shows 'Datasource xxxxx is not found'. There is a fix in the upcoming May release that should help a large number of customers hitting this error.
In the mean time, this can be fixed by editing the RSHostingService config to add Hosting-databaseValidationStatus to the AS configuration.
Steps:
1. Open RSHostingService config.json file. for example: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Report Server\PBIRS\RSHostingService\config.json"
2. Find the section with name = "AS".
3. Under "restartOnChangesTo" key, add "Hosting-databaseValidationStatus" to the entries
For example-
before:
{
"name": "AS",
"launcher":"AnalysisServices",
"path": "ASEngine\\msmdsrv.exe",
"Config":
{
"Workspaces.path": "ASEngine\\workspaces",
"restartOnChangesTo": "ASPort,Workspaces.path"
}
}
after:
{
"name": "AS",
"launcher":"AnalysisServices",
"path": "ASEngine\\msmdsrv.exe",
"Config":
{
"Workspaces.path": "ASEngine\\workspaces",
"restartOnChangesTo": "Hosting-databaseValidationStatus,ASPort,Workspaces.path"
}
}

This worked for us, and one of our error messages was: "Microsoft.PowerBI.ReportServer.ASEngineManagedRoot, No credentials were found for the datasource."
And, we did not have to restart the report server service.
Finally a solution that works!!! This issue has caused me so much pain.
Thanks! Finally found the root cause.....
