Field Parameter in Sep 2025

I find that there is "Field Parameter" feature in Sep 2025 PBIRS Desktop, but it can not work after uploading to PBIRS.

Can Microsoft make a hot fix for PBIRS?  It is really useful and it can reduce so many bookmarks.

Hi @Vanchy_Liao

The Field Parameter feature, although visible in the September 2025 Power BI Report Server (PBIRS) Desktop release, unfortunately isn’t yet fully supported by the PBIRS server itself. This happens because PBIRS and the Power BI Service (cloud) operate on different development and release cycles — PBIRS typically lags several months behind the cloud version in terms of feature parity. While you can create and view field parameters in PBIRS Desktop, once the report is published to Report Server, those dynamic fields won’t function correctly because the PBIRS rendering engine doesn’t yet recognize or process that capability. Many users have requested this feature because field parameters greatly simplify report interactivity and eliminate the need for multiple bookmarks or visuals. Microsoft is aware of this demand, and while a hotfix would be ideal, historically, PBIRS improvements are bundled into quarterly or biannual updates, not small patches. Therefore, it’s more likely that full support for Field Parameters will appear in a future PBIRS release rather than as an immediate hotfix.

Hi @Poojara_D12 ,

I totally understand, but I think that both desktop for RS and PBIRS have to support at least the same features after they were released to be downloaded.

Field Parameter is so important, but the blog does not mentioned it. Not to mention that it was posted on 10/15.

Hi @Vanchy_Liao ,

The Field Parameter appears in PBIRS Desktop but once the report is published to the server it does not work as expected. This is consistent with what we believe: The feature currently functions in the authoring client, but server-side rendering support for Field Parameters is not yet available in PBIRS.
If this is important to you add a idea to Fabric Ideas - Microsoft Fabric Community or vote on a existing idea.

Best Regards.

I fully agree.

Microsoft has long said that preview features wouldn't be made available to RS.

However, now that the field parameters have been formally released, there's no excuse not to support them anymore.

But so far there has been no announcement.

Hi @v-echaithra ,

there is no another relreased PBIRS installer, so i still can't use the feature.

Hope MS can release quickly.

it has been over 1 month since the latest release.

@tayloramy Sep 2025. the latest version of PBIRS.

Hi @Vanchy_Liao

I'm not seeing field parameters mentioned in the blog post for september 2025, and I'm not seeing it on the roadmap either.

RIght now it looks like this functionality isn't fully supported, I'd recommend posting an idea for it to gain traction:

@tayloramy

MS does not update the "what's new" section and blog post for Sep 2025 PBIRS, so i don't know where you see the roadmap or blog post. If you indicate this post, it is for Power BI Service.

You can download the Sep 2025 PBIRS Desktop and you will see the field parameter feature on the pane.
