Error while connecting Report Builder to Snowflake

The error message you're seeing in Report Builder:

"Couldn't resolve host name"  ODBC ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][Snowflake]  curl_easy_perform failed)

means that Report Builder can't reach the Snowflake server — this is a network/DNS resolution issue rather than a credential issue.

How to fix?

1. Check Host Name:
   

   * Make sure your Snowflake server URL (e.g., xyz.snowflakecomputing.com) is entered correctly in Report     

     Builder's connection string.

   * Try opening the Snowflake URL in your browser to ensure it's accessible.
   
   

2. Network Access:
   

   * If you’re on a corporate VPN or secured network, try switching networks or disabling VPN temporarily.

   * Report Builder uses different network paths from Power BI Desktop — so what works in PBI may still be blocked in Report Builder.
   
   

3. ODBC Driver:
   

   * Ensure you're using the latest version of the Snowflake ODBC driver.

   * You can download it from Snowflake’s official site. (https://docs.snowflake.com/developer-guide/odbc/odbc-download)

4. Check Proxy Settings (if any):
   

   * If your org uses a proxy, Report Builder must be able to go through it (unlike PBI Desktop, which may bypass it).

   * Add proxy config in the odbc.ini file or system environment if needed.

If the issue persists, test the ODBC connection outside of Report Builder via:

• ODBC Data Source Administrator tool
• Or using Power BI Desktop with DirectQuery
