You can get the Aug 2018 server install from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57270

Once that is installed I think that the download link in the portal should point to the correct desktop version.

Note that this version is now out of support (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/support-timeline) because it is developed in parallel with the cloud service the expection from Microsoft is that you should be updating Power BI Report Server at least every 12 months to stay supported.

The link provided references to current (September 2019), is it still possible to get from August 2018?

@d_gosbell, would you have any response to @VictorShostak's observation?

Microsoft seems to repoint the old links to the current release once they go out of support. As far as I am aware there is no way to download old, unsupported versions of Power BI Report Server or the associated Desktop releases. Microsoft only supports the current release, plus the two prior releases (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/support-timeline).

Confirming what @d_gosbell  pointed out, only 3 versions of Power BI Report Server are supported at one time, currently the oldest version in support is from September 2019.

@d_gosbell, @Anonymous, thanks, would you have any idea where to locate the installer files for these versions? I ask as, though I could locate descriptions of the earlier versions I could not locate the actual installer files themselves, even for the last version.

For the current version I always just use the following shortcut https://aka.ms/pbireportserver

Then I just googled for "Power BI Report Server September 2019 download" and it came up with the following

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57270

And then I did the same for the Jan 2020 version

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55329
