unable to find a gateway

Problem with Direct Query and On premise gatways.

Tried several installations of the On Promise Enterprise gateway

- Azure vitual machine

- Domain server ( not domian controller) in out netwerk

- lokal laptop

Made a PBI file with aan direct query to the database running on the same machine as the gateway is running. Tried this on all machines. When publishing the report to the powerbi service I always get this message: "publishing succeeded, but the published report cannot connect to the data source because we are unable to find a gateway"

Already disabled firewall...

It's driving me nuts, specially when I see that in other blogs it is mentioned that it mostly works right way..
