"External connections" warning after creating query. Zero external connections in file.

Hi folks 🙂

I've found a few posts about this here and there, but all seem to end with instructions to check for external references in named ranges, conditional formatting, and so on... none point to a resolution to what I'm running into.

Namely, it appears that using Power Query to connect to a file-internal table triggers the "external connections..." warning.

For example, here's a file that (on the two systems where I've checked, anyway) displays that warning on open. This is a new workbook into which I merely:

  1. Entered some dummy data.
  2. Converted that data to a Table object.
  3. Imported that table to Power Query.

That's it... but now the file throws the "external connections" warning on open. It's true that there is a connection... but it is not external.

Has anyone else run into this?... and have you found a solution?

Many thanks!

Exact same problem here. Created a data source from a local table => warning

Hi @Akrep

I was not able to reproduce this error, opening and refreshing on my computer does not prompt this error, everything runs fine.

Hi @v-cgao-msft ... many thanks for taking a look at this, and for the suggestions 🙂

Unfortunately, neither of those methods will work for me. Can't delete the connections because I need them, and while I could edit the Trust Center on my own machine, I develop materials for several classes, one of them with over a thousand students enrolled each semester.

Take care,

A.
