object reference not set to an instance of an object while signing in

Hi,

We get "something went wrong object reference not set to an instance of an object" while trying to log in to organisation account to connect to Power Query.

It worked fine tuesday 26.10, but it seems like a new version of Power BI desktop is installed 27.10, could this interfere with Power Query login?

what data source are you using?

Depending on the data source used, the fix is different. Take a look at the list of fixes according to the datasource here: https://powerbipoint.com/2024/01/02/power-bi-fix-the-error-object-reference-not-set-to-an-instance-o...

Check you privacy level settings in Power bi desktop options and update the privacy level accordingly and try to refresh.

*Fixed it*

For people with the same error message. Previously i opened a sharepoint excel file in the desktop app and kopied the path from there. File -> properties-> location.

When i copied the path from sharepoint online and replaced the old path it worked again. Select the Sharepoint Excel file -> scroll down on the menu that apears on the right and copy the path.

Hope this helps somebody. 🙂

Hi @masmus ,

The available authentication methods:

  • Anonymous: Select this authentication method if the web page doesn't require any credentials.
  • Windows: Select this authentication method if the web page requires your Windows credentials.
  • Basic: Select this authentication method if the web page requires a basic user name and password.
  • Web API: Select this method if the web resource that you’re connecting to uses an API Key for authentication purposes.
  • Organizational account: Select this authentication method if the web page requires organizational account credentials.

1.What's your data source?

2.Did you try another authentication method?

3.If your PBI is the latest version, how about rolling back to an older one?

Please provide more details to help us clarify your scenario.

1. SharePoint/OneDrive personal Onedrive files.

2. We have tried all methods.

3. Roll back did not work.

When we tried connecting local data source Onedrive it works perfectly, but when connecting to web-source the same error occurres.
