Hi, I'm trying to import postgresql data through Power Query in Excel.
When I try to set it up in Excel, it takes me to this Microsoft page (Import data from data sources (Power Query) - Microsoft Support) telling me I need an npgsql data provider installed.
I've gone to the official documentation for npgsql here Installation | Npgsql Documentation and it's very unclear to me how to use it. Recent version downloads include a bunch of code with no installer file.
I was able to find this recent (2024) Microsoft page (Power Query PostgreSQL connector - Power Query | Microsoft Learn) specifically specifying the need for version 4.0.10. Is that still the case? On the npgsql site, it says this is now out of support. The download is still available and has an msi installer file (which is what I was expecting to need for this), but here's a quote from the npgsql site: "Do not use the Windows MSI installer unless you're sure that your program requires GAC installation - this method is otherwise highly discouraged."
I'm out of my depth technically on this one. I haven't been able to get IT help and I don't have admin rights to install anything myself, so I can't easily try a bunch of things. I've found some forum posts mentioning npgsql but they're all a few years old. Is anyone able to confirm if 4.0 is still a requirement? Or if a later version works, how do I get it to work with Power Query?
Thanks!!

yes. 4.0.10 is still a requirement. Newer versions are not working.
