can some one explain to me how that data storage works ?

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-service-may-update-file-size-increase-to-1-gb/

as per this post file size limit is increased to 1 gb . Is this a file (PBIX) size limit or datamodel limit?
what happend when data goes beyond 1 GB?
and what is the data capacity limit for free as well as pro user?
because file limit is extend from 250MB to 1GB but data capacity limit is 1GB for Free and 10 GB for PRO per user/month.

Hi @abhaygawde,

Firstly, the 1 GB limitation mentioned in the above blog applies to the Power BI Desktop file (PBIX file) and Excel file. If you publish a PBIX file which is greater than 1GB from Desktop or upload an Excel file/a PBIX file which is greater than 1GB through Get Data in the service, you will get a file size limit message and be prevented to go ahead.

Secondly, if the data model grows beyond 1 GB, you will get a message when refreshing the dataset in Power BI Service. You can rename the PBIX file or Excel file to .zip and check the size of the data model file within. For more details, please review this blog.

Thirdly, free users have a maximum 1 GB data capacity and pro users have 10 GB maximum capacity in Power BI, for more details about data capacity in Power BI, please review this article: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-admin-manage-your-data-storage-in-power-bi... .

Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

What happen if the size of data reach 10GB? is there any additional plan to add more space with extra fee?
