about columns filled with 'table' and 'value' in dimension tables queries within power query

Hello There,

While working on power query in power BI desktop,  as I opened each Dimension table queries, I found the right corner columns of each table have one or two columns with 'table' or 'value' as values;

Would anyone help me understand,

1. what do they indicate?

2. why are they clickable and when clicked, they are removed automatically.

Thank you for giving your valuable time!

  • Hi arunaramana ,

    1. Since this is a database instance, most tables have relationship which have been built in in the database already. The tables and Values columns are the tables which have relationships with current table. When you connect to a table, in the Navigation page, if you click 'Selected Related Tables', you will find that the above table field would be selected.

    2. Values and Tables column fields can be expanded in Power Query, when you click them, they will be expanded to show their value which looks like they are 'deleted' but actually not, you can click the Navigation step to find each hierarchy to show.

    Why sir, those tables and values represent the greatest thing about Power Query--those are the related database tables and values, laid out right there and already joined to all of the values in your current table! Expanding one expands the related database table or value. It's also an example of decent database administration.
