Updating specific columns
I am creating a tracker that will continuously update information, such as permit status, issued date etc.
It will be a master list with some manually entered information in each row. The master list is a power query table. I will be entering data into a data source tab, that data will be filtered and transformed into the master. To add new permits, I will either paste them at the bottom of the data source tab, and/or manually enter them into the master.
Every couple of days, we will pull new data from our system, it will have the permit numbers, and the date it was pulled from the system, and then variable information like the status. I want to then update the status, issued date etc with this new information, but keep the manually entered rows. How would I just update specific columns without changing the manually entered rows?
Hi Kazzi , Please try these
- Use Power Query to import and clean new data from the system into a Data Source Tab.
- Merge the "Master List" and new data using a left join on Permit Number.
- Update specific columns while preserving manually entered rows.
- Refresh Power Query when new data is added to automatically update the Master List.

Apply the Joine (Combine table) over your manuly entered table and update tdable.

Hi,
I am still very new to PQ and have some questions.
I've created a table where I add data. I've created a "cleaned data" query. Do I need a Master Query that uses "cleaned data" as a source?
Also when updating information, I can copy and paste new data into the source for the "cleaned data" and it has an independent data pulled date. Should I manually remove duplicates from that table, or should I go to "cleaned data" and remove duplicates? If so how do I make sure the older duplicates are removed and the newest are kept?
