Unable to access managed metadata/term sets when connecting to on premise SharePoint 2013 folder

Hello,

We are connecting to an on-premise SP 2013 folder -- not list.

This SP folder has related tags -- metadata/termsets.

None of the fields related to the tags display -- even after expanding attributes and displaying all fields.   No (term set) fields whatsoever -- not even a field displalying a guid.  All other fields display properly.

How can we get this to work?  We need the fields and data associated with the term sets.

Note - this does work in Excel.  We took that OLE connection string and tried to use in Power BI but it did not work.  Also works when connecting in MS Access.  Even Tableau works.

This is critical functionality for our firm  -- sincerely appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Thanks,

Dan

  • A few updates of what did NOT work:

Tried as a Sharepoint List - but didn't work - since not a list

Tried oData and fields did not display

Tried as OLE and did not work

Tried connecting as Library and in Advanced Editor changed to Source = SharePoint.Contents but didn't work.

      Hi Lydia,

      Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately, neither of these solutions work.

First, we are connecting to a Folder, not a List -- so the 2nd link is not really relevant.  Did try it but didn't work.

We also tried the solution prescribed in the first link and it did not work.  We are not able to view ANY fields related to term sets when connecting to a SP Folder in Power BI.  Several websites describe the process to go through for Lists -- where you see the associated GUID and join back -- but neither the text field nor the guid field is displayed.

Note - we can view this information when connecting via MS Excel and MS Access.  We have tried replicated those connection strings -- Excel seems to use OLE - but didn't work.

      Thanks,

      Dan

        Hello,

Any updates on this?  Is this possible or planned for the future?

We may have to not use Power BI if this functionality does not exist.

        Thanks,

        Dan
