Unable to access SSAS tabular cube on pwerbi Service.

HI Guys,

I have created a tabular ssas cube on my sql server 2016 developer edition using ssdt.

I have connected my powerbi desktop with this cube using 'Connect Live' option.

After creating a few visualizations, i a trying to publish it to my powerbi service account.

It gets published successfully. I have the latest version of on prem data gateway installed and connected succesfully.

But when i go to my powerbi service account it doesn't open the reports with an error "There was a dta source access error. Please contact the gateway administrator".

What am i missing here?

Thanks

Aniruddh

    Hi Aniruddh,

There is a limitation to use a live connection against tabular or multidimensional instances. See: Limitations of Analysis Services live connections.

    • 2012 SP1 CU4 or later (Business Intelligence and Enterprise SKU)
    • 2014 (Business Intelligence and Enterprise SKU)
    • 2016 (Standard SKU or higher)

Please check if the server version and required SKU meet the requirement firstly.

Also please check if you need to create a rule to match Power BI service login names with your local directory UPN. See: Usernames with Analysis Services.

    Best Regards,

I am using developer edition. I believe that should not be an issue. Or is it?

        Hi Aniruddh,

I have to say that the Developer Edition of SQL Server is not currently supported for Live connections to Analysis Services.
