I am assuming this happened to me because of limitations on the trial package for Power BI Desktop.
It may be that only one connection is allowed in this scenario.

I've not tried to connect to anything new yet, but the one test I was doing is working. Not sure that the trial package of PowerBI should not connect well to SQL. I've not seen anything about that type of limitation.
Agreed, neither have I .
I just thought it possible as my original connection works without flaw....
