SharePoint Online Lists 2.0 (Beta)
Hello Power BI Community,
I hope you can help, please.
When using Power BI Desktop and selecting "Get data", I can search for "SharePoint" and I'm presented with the three options below:
I connect to "SharePoint Online List" and it then offers two options. 2.0 (Beta) and 1.0.
I've read the Micrsooft Docs about this and watched a couple of YouTube videos, but still have some questions please.
- Is the option 2.0 (Beta) faster at gathering the data than 1.0?
- In "Advanced options" the "View Mode" allows me to either select "All - Retrieve all columns from a SharePoint List" or "Default - Retrieve the columns set in the 'Default View' of a SharePoint List". I imagine when I select the "Default View" option and include only the columns I want, this will make retriving the data faster?
- And if so, I imagine that because I only get the columns I want, I won't need to do as much transformation on the columns, such as remove unwanted columns etc, which will again make it quicker?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to Power BI. Any help would be much appreciated.
Garry
Your interpretation is correct. Use the 2.0 and, if needed, use the view option to get just desired columns. Also, if your refresh is slow even after that, please see this article for a fast way to load list data.
