Hi All,
Sort of a weird one that's nit-picky but is driving me a little crazy. I've tried updating excel, updating Power BI, updating my computer, restarting excel, restarting my computer, and it will just not resolve itself. Curious is anyone has found a work around cause I couldn't find anyone else asking about it.
I'm trying to search for a semantic model I maintain by going into excel, insert, pivot table, 'from Power BI'. When I do that it opens the pane on the right that looks like this:
When I click into the search bar, it immediately moves my cursor to cell A1 and doesn't allow me to type into the search bar. I can open another file with a pivot connected to the report I want, paste it into the excel file and it works fine. Any ideas for how to fix the search bar?
Thank you!
Hi @cconnolly ,
Could you please confirm if your issue is solved or if you have raised the support ticket and if the issue has been resolved after raising a support ticket? If a solution has been found, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share your insights with the community. This would be helpful for other members who may encounter similar issues.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
Hi @cconnolly , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
Check for conflicting add-ins. Disable all non-essential add-ins and restart Excel. If the issue is resolved, re-enable add-ins one by one to identify the cause. Repair Microsoft Office (Control Panel -> Programs & Features -> Microsoft Office -> Change -> Repair) and restart your computer after the repair completes. Windows 11 can cause issues with UI elements, so adjust Display Scaling to 100% or 125%.
If none of these steps work, the best next step is to report the issue to Microsoft Support, as it may be a bug or a backend issue. Provide them with all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken to help them understand the issue better and provide a solution.

For a temporary workaround, try opening an Existing PivotTable and Reconnect.
If this helped solve the issue, please consider marking it 'Accept as Solution' so others with similar queries may find it more easily. If not, please share the details, always happy to help.
Thank you.
I'm having the same issues after I recently upgraded to Windows 11. Has anyone found a solution yet?
EDIT: I did find a workaround:
1. Copy the text you want for the search bar to the clipboard.
2. Right-click in the search bar and it will leave your cursor there.
3. Paste the text for the search with CTRL-V. You may be able to type at this point, but it isn't consistent.
Hi @cconnolly Could you ensure both applications are updated to the latest versions to address potential bugs and please clear the cache in excel by cheking this
Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
Clear cached data under Privacy Options or restart Excel with a fresh cache.
Hello,
Yes, I tried both of those but they haven't worked for me unfortunately.
