Searching for Semantic Model in Excel Connection to Power BI Not Working
- 1 year ago
Hi cconnolly , Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
Check for conflicting add-ins. Disable all non-essential add-ins and restart Excel. If the issue is resolved, re-enable add-ins one by one to identify the cause. Repair Microsoft Office (Control Panel -> Programs & Features -> Microsoft Office -> Change -> Repair) and restart your computer after the repair completes. Windows 11 can cause issues with UI elements, so adjust Display Scaling to 100% or 125%.
If none of these steps work, the best next step is to report the issue to Microsoft Support, as it may be a bug or a backend issue. Provide them with all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken to help them understand the issue better and provide a solution.
Below is the link to create Microsoft Support ticket:
How to create a Fabric and Power BI Support ticket - Power BI | Microsoft LearnFor a temporary workaround, try opening an Existing PivotTable and Reconnect.
If this helped solve the issue, please consider marking it 'Accept as Solution' so others with similar queries may find it more easily. If not, please share the details, always happy to help.
Thank you.

Hello,
The only add-in I had enabled was Power Pivot. Unfortunately, disabling that add-in and restarting didn't fix the issue. I can work around it by going onto the web version of the report, opening it in excel for the web, and then opening it in the desktop version. It doesn't completely solve the issue but it's a stable work around that is serviceable for the time being.
Thanks!
EDIT: The issue resolved itself over the last couple days, thanks!
