SSAS Tabular in Azure need on premise gateway?
- Anonymous8 years ago
Do you connect to Azure Analysis Services in Power BI? If so, gateway is not required when your dataset only contains the Azure Analysis Services data source.
After you publish the PBIX file to Power BI Service, you will find that Power BI Service connects directly to your data source.

javanoide,
When you connect to SSAS which is installed in Azure VM and refresh this dataset, gateway is required.

Lydia,
The same behaviour applies when you have a SSAS as in IaaS mode (VM on Azure with SQL and Analysis Service)?

I found the solution on this topic https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Confused-by-whether-Power-Bi-can-access-live-data/td-p/8172
