Retrieving data for a report of SharePoint online site view statistics with UserId

I'm working on a PowerBI report of SharePoint online site statistics. I need to be able to tell how many of our employees are viewing/visiting our news by their 'employee type' - data from our AAD.

I am struggling to find data outside of Audit via Purview that has a record of the visit/view that includes the userId of the action. Is it possible to get Sharepoint Audit data as an API?

Do you know if it's possible to create a query via the API where I can specify the URL of the sharePoint sites with a wild card - like I can from the Purview portal

For example I'd like to only get auditData on "www.company.sharepoint.com/sites/XYZ*" - where * is a wildcard
